Our New Parental Leave Guide

In time for May Day in both its meanings—as International Workers Day, and as a celebration of the Earth’s renewal—the Guild is pleased to announce the publication of a new resource on our website.

“Guild Guidance for New Parents: Making the Most of Available Leave Options” was authored by our former Chief Steward, Nan Ernst, to help new and expecting parents navigate the sometimes complicated options for creating an effective parental leave plan. During Nan’s time as Chief Steward she became adept at guiding our service unit members to maximize their available leave options, and we are grateful to her for now sharing her wisdom with all of us. We anticipate that this document will also turn out to be useful for those planning, or unexpectedly managing, other types of extended leave surrounding medical issues.

“Guild Guidance for New Parents” can be found under the Resources menu on our website, guild2910.org. Printed copies will also be made available in the Guild Office (LM-G41). Let us know if you’d like a copy!

Please Note: Starting October 1, 2020, federal employees are eligible for up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption or foster placement of a child. We are  in the process of updating the Guild Guidance for New Parents to reflect this new and welcome benefit.
