This year’s Guild Day, July 25, was a huge success, with fourteen new members officially joining AFSCME Local 2910.
“This was a wonderful outpouring of support for our union,” said Guild President Saul Schniderman. “We are here as the voice of the employees in the workplace, and it is heartening to see so many people stop by our table to join and express support for our union at a time when so many federal unions are facing serious challenges.”
Shelby Richardson, AFSCME International’s summer intern, helped make Guild Day a great success.
Guild Day was coordinated by Guild Executive Board Member-at-Large for Membership Jackie Coleburn, AFSCME Council 20 Federal Sector Representative Makeba Dukes-Gibbs, and AFSCME International intern Shelby Richardson, who together staffed the membership table in front of Dunkin’ Donuts in the Madison Building corridor. They attracted positive attention from many walking by, including Librarian of Congress Dr. Carla Hayden, who personally congratulated one of our new members.

Your Guild membership matters! For forty-two years, the Guild has advocated for employee rights, health and safety issues, and the enforcement of a strong contract, improving the work-life of all Library employees. We are committed to fairness, justice, and fostering a culture of inclusion. While we represent all professional bargaining unit employees, when it comes to negotiations with Library management, the more dues-paying members we have, the stronger we are. Your membership dues directly support the work of the Guild.
The Guild thanks—and welcomes—everyone who joined on Guild Day. To those employees who are not members, join us—today or any day! Every member counts.
Public service employee unions need you now more than ever.
Take a stand with the Guild, your voice at the Library of Congress.
