On this hundredth anniversary of the end of World War I, we highlight an article that was originally sent out to Guild members during our 40th anniversary celebration in 2016. In it, Frederick J. Augustyn, Jr. shares his research into the history of four names carved on the Library’s marble walls and filled with gold, commemorating Library staff members who gave their lives in military service during that conflict.

Armistice Day has since become Veteran’s Day, and we also take this moment to honor the military service of all Library of Congress staff, past and present.
